On the 9th of November, the Association for the Promotion of the Almada Innovation District (Almada.ID) and the Municipality of Almada carried out a joint technical visit to the intervention territory of this operation, within the scope of the revision process of the Municipal Master Plan ( PDM) of Almada and the monitoring of projects to be developed in that region. The founders of the Association, currently chaired by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, participated in the visit, represented by the Rector, João Sàágua, the Municipality of Almada, with the Mayor, Inês de Medeiros, competent entities (CCDR-LVT, APL and others) and the members of the Association created for this purpose, owners and investors involved. The initiative, of an informal and collaborative nature, constituted an extraordinary opportunity for the joint mobilization of the various actors with an impact on that part of the municipality of Almada, to the benefit of orientation solutions among the development projects proposed by the main owners and institutions, in accordance with strategic urban guidelines. , and the needs of the territory and populations. In the opinion of the Mayor of Almada, Inês de Medeiros, “The Almada Innovation District is one of the most structuring projects taking place in the municipality and will allow, with the work of planning and consultation that we are doing with the various entities, whether in the scope of the PDM, or with initiatives such as the one we carried out today, an improvement in mobility and territorial competitiveness, including the increase in the housing stock, economic development and urban and environmental requalification." For the Rector, João Sàágua, who chairs the Association of Almada Innovation District “Universidade NOVA de Lisboa is committed to contributing to building the City of Almada Innovation District, starting from its Campus, opening its doors to it, to the populations and to the scientific and economic activity; to enhance its creation through knowledge, attracting talent and attracting investment and economic and business activity”. Recognizing himself as one of the anchors of this community, the Rector reiterated the useful and fundamental collaboration of the Association with the Municipality and with other partners. The revision of the PDM of Almada is currently in the consultation phase after the 3rd Meeting of the Consultative Committee (CC). This is an opportunity to provide the municipality with a new instrument that is more adapted to reality and to the various current challenges, particularly highlighting the themes of adaptation, mitigation and the increase of territorial resilience, and which is assumed as an element that induces growth and sustained appreciation of the territory, where inevitably equitable territorial competitiveness is the key to the success and vitality of cities and regions.
